ANALYTICAL SERVICES / HPLC

Chromatographic profile.
Interpreted with care.

HPLC analysis separates sample components under a defined method. Diode-array detection records the response of components that absorb at the selected wavelengths.

THE QUESTION

What can the chromatogram show?

Understand the detectable profile.

A chromatographic investigation can describe the retention pattern and relative integrated peak areas of detected components. Comparisons are meaningful only when the method, sample preparation and other relevant conditions are defined.

A proposed project may compare samples, investigate a profile or evaluate the suitability of a method. The exact question and reporting basis are confirmed before work begins.

PROPOSED DELIVERABLES

Agree on the report before analysis.

Define the record you need.

  • Unique sample and customer-supplied lot identifiers.
  • The method identifier, revision and relevant separation/detection conditions.
  • A chromatogram with labeled axes and integration context, where within the agreed scope.
  • The stated basis for any relative peak-area result.
  • Relevant observations, controls, review information and limitations.

These are scoping topics. The quotation identifies the actual records and deliverables included in your project.

INTERPRETATION

Where chromatographic profiling stops.

The method sets the boundaries.

Different components may have different detector responses, may co-elute or may not be detected under a particular method. Peaks cannot establish definitive molecular identity from HPLC/DAD alone.

A chromatographic area percentage should not be substituted for an independently supported identity, total mass-purity or content claim.
